Therapy at Esiena

Individual therapy, online or in person, for whatever you’re carrying. We have particular experience supporting people from culturally diverse backgrounds, and everyone is welcome.

Individual therapy

A private, unhurried space that’s only about you. We work with anxiety, low mood, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties and the times when life changes faster than you can keep up with. Sessions are a conversation, not a lecture, and we shape the work around what you want to be different.

Often a fit if you

  • keep finding yourself in the same patterns
  • are carrying more than the people around you can see
  • want to understand yourself, not just cope

Culturally attuned therapy

Your background, identity, faith, language and family are part of how you feel, so they’re part of the work. You won’t have to explain why something matters, or translate your experience into someone else’s frame. We’re curious about your context, and careful never to assume it.

Often a fit if you

  • live between cultures, or between generations
  • feel the weight of family or community expectations
  • have tried therapy before and spent it explaining yourself

Holistic support

Stress lives in the body as much as the mind. Alongside talking, we work on settling your nervous system, rest, boundaries and what gives your life meaning, so that change is something you can feel, not only understand.

Often a fit if you

  • notice stress in your sleep, appetite or body
  • find it hard to switch off, even on a good day
  • want care that includes body and spirit

Identity and belonging

Moving countries, growing up as the child of people who did, being the first in your family to do something, or simply not feeling at home anywhere. We make space for the loneliness and the pressure that can come with that, and for the richness too.

Often a fit if you

  • are navigating immigration or second-generation pressures
  • feel like a different person in different rooms
  • are working out who you are, on your own terms

Grief and life transitions

Loss isn’t only about people. It can be a place, a relationship, a career or a version of yourself. We help you grieve in a way that fits your culture and your beliefs, and find your footing in what comes next.

Often a fit if you

  • are grieving someone, or something, and feel stuck
  • are facing a move, an ending or a new beginning
  • feel you’re expected to be over it by now

Racial and intergenerational trauma

Some of what we carry was never ours to carry: racism, discrimination, and the hurt passed down through families and history. This work is trauma-informed and carefully paced. You stay in charge of what we explore and when.

Often a fit if you

  • live with the daily strain of racial stress
  • recognise patterns your family has carried for generations
  • want to heal without having to prove what happened

Everyone is welcome here, exactly as you are.

You don’t need to be from a particular background, or to have a diagnosis, or to know what to say. You only need to want something to feel different.

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Ask in your free consultation, or email [email protected].

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes. Sessions happen over secure video, or in person by appointment. Many people mix the two.

How long is a session?

Fifty minutes. Most people come weekly or every other week to begin with, and we adjust from there.

Do I need to be from a particular background?

No. Everyone is welcome. We have particular experience supporting people from culturally diverse backgrounds, and that experience shapes how we work with everyone.

Is therapy covered by insurance?

Many extended health plans cover registered psychotherapy. You’ll get a receipt after every session to submit to your plan. Check your coverage before you start, and we’re happy to help you work out what to ask.

What if I’m not sure therapy is for me?

That’s exactly what the free consultation is for. It’s fifteen minutes, there’s no commitment, and it’s fine to decide afterwards that now isn’t the time.
